Lithium batteries for the world of awp and automated logistics of agvs and lgvs

The 8th GIS Expo 2021, the event devoted to the latest technological developments in lifting, handling, automated logistics and exceptional transport took place from 7 to 9 October in Piacenza, Italy. We have been a major technological participant at this premier showcase event (Hall 1, booth C24–D25) with our most recent innovations: our third-generation lithium batteries for aerial work platforms, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) and LGVs (Laser Guided Vehicles).
The word “battery” has been almost exclusively associated to lithium over the last few years. This is especially so in the field of aerial work platforms, where lead batteries are seen as an obsolete choice and a limited solution as far as efficiency and performance go. Lithium batteries offer aerial work platforms (AWPs) numerous advantages.
Applied to aerial work platforms, Flash Battery lithium batteries have scored very high in efficiency (over 25% more compared to lead) and high in performance, plus they have zero emissions and a working life that exceeds 4,000 recharging cycles. What’s more, their capability of supporting partial charges and discharges and the proprietary control electronics enable the battery to remain balanced and efficient from every perspective.
Bolstered by our strong relationship with automated logistics giant E80 Group, we lead the market as manufacturers of highly customised lithium batteries for the automated logistics sector (AGVs – Automated Guided Vehicles and LGVs – Laser Guided Vehicles), which finds tremendous flexibility and greater safety in lithium technologies.
The following are some of the top advantages of using Flash Battery’s lithium batteries in this field:
There are more than 4,000 Flash Battery lithium batteries installed in E80 Group AGVs and LGVs that are operating in the most important industrial plants in the world and contributing to making these smart factories increasingly more sustainable and efficient.
The research activity of our R&D department, which now accounts for 35% of our staff, aims at the gaining of new skills. This drive for investigation and innovation is what has enabled us to develop batteries with a new generation of cells.
These cells, which go by the name of third-generation cells and made it possible to increase the energy density of our battery packs considerably from 134 Wh/L to 207 Wh/L, have been presented at GIS Expo. And while higher density also means a more compact battery pack, the high safety levels have not been altered and are guaranteed for each of our 12,000+ lithium batteries that are spread throughout the world. Besides increasing energy density, we work incessantly to increase performance and life cycles, two characteristics underlying the demands of the industrial market.
In response, Flash Battery is focusing on LFP chemistry, which is the chemistry that best meets the specific requirements of this sector due to its extremely high safety levels and stability and the fact that it is available in high-capacity formats, as required by industrial systems.
Another innovation that we presented at the trade show is the new release of our proprietary software, Flash Data Center. An essential ally for fleet control and consumption analysis, the 4.0 version comes with an improved interface both in terms of graphics and in terms of the information displayed, with implementation of artificial fleet control algorithms and extremely detailed consumption analysis that will definitely make life easier for rental businesses.
