Lithium Battery chemistry and safety
The industrial market demands lithium batteries that offer a long service life and high safety performance. Currently lithium is the main technology used for electrification, with a range of chemistries that work best in different sectors.
Working in the industrial machinery market, Flash Battery has chosen to chiefly use LiFePO4 (LFP) chemistry which is best suited to the needs of this sector thanks to its intrinsic safety properties and high degree of stability, coupled with its long service life (more than 4000 charge cycles). Available in a range of different capacities (from 100 Ah to more than 300 Ah), the lithium iron phosphate batteries do not require lots of little cells in parallel which would negatively affect safety.
These aspects, combined with the advanced proprietary BMS, give the Flash Battery lithium batteries reliable performance and record safety levels. If you still believe that lithium batteries are dangerous, find out how an experienced manufacturer can make all the difference!
BMS: Battery Management System
Designed to be the “brain” of the battery, the BMS is crucial for a range of functions, from balancing the cells, to safety monitoring, and determining the exact state of charge. Flash Battery’s proprietary BMS system, the Flash Balancing System, is the only one of its kind.
Unlike a traditional BMS, which needs long balancing times leading to a gradual reduction in the amount of energy available and a reduced range for the machine, the patented Flash Balancing System acts at high power, both actively during discharge, and actively and passively during charging, with a balancing current of 20 A, more than 20 times higher than the market standard. This allows it to balance the battery in under 30 minutes in cyclical applications, meaning that the balancing time has little impact on the total charging time.
Battery Remote Control
Why wait for a problem to happen when we can fix it before it happens?
Flash Battery lithium batteries have a remote cloud-based monitoring system, the Flash Data Center, which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse the data from all Flash Battery systems operating across the globe.
The most important feature is the predictive and automatic monitoring of data: the system works 24/7 to monitor and analyse the battery operating data received, nipping potential issues in the bud thanks to predictive diagnostics and over-the-air updates.
With the Flash Data Center, it is possible to refine the performance of industrial machines, increasing productivity and ensuring continuity of operation.
From prototype to production: How Flash Battery develops a bespoke battery
Every Flash Battery battery is designed using an industrial process in which all areas of the company work together towards a single goal: supporting the manufacturer to jointly assess the most suitable lithium battery for their operational requirements, to deliver a comprehensive and bespoke electrification solution.
This industrial approach has allowed us to develop all of the necessary skills for producing almost all of the strategic components internally. We purchase cells from the world’s leading manufacturers and handle everything internally, from electronics to customisation of the mechanics and electrics, and development of the software and firmware. Every phase is always devised, designed and produced at our HQ in Reggio Emilia.
