For the fourth year running, Flash Battery returns to GIS Expo, the benchmark event in Italy and Europe for lifting, handling, and industrial transport solutions. Taking place from 25 to 27 September at Piacenza Expo, this year’s event gives lifting-sector manufacturers a prime stage to showcase cutting-edge developments and take stock of a theme that’s becoming ever more tangible in the construction equipment and industrial vehicle sectors: electrification.

Industrial lifting is undergoing a historic transformation. The drive for electrification has moved beyond trend to become an imperative, propelled by tighter environmental regulations and the practical demands of construction sites and urban areas for low-emission energy systems.

Flash Battery’s technical and sales teams will welcome visitors at Hall 1, Booth C169/D200 with a showcase of our latest custom lithium battery solutions for lifting applications. From aerial platforms and cranes, to excavators, telehandlers, AGVs and LGVs, each machine requires a unique approach to dimensions, energy needs and duty cycles. A targeted electrification plan is key to ensuring optimal performance.

Flash Battery 51.2 V – 105 Ah – 5.4 kWh for Hybrid Truck-Mounted Aerial Platform

Developed in close collaboration with the manufacturer, this project delivered a custom 5.4kWh lithium battery for a truck-mounted aerial platform with telescopic boom. The goal was to create a hybrid system, enabling full-electric operation of the lifting functions on an internal-combustion chassis.

 

Mechanical customisation met weight and space constraints, resulting in a compact pack optimised for 8 hours’  runtime. An integrated heating system and IP65 rating ensure reliable operation in extreme climates. The 230 V battery charger supports multiple charging modes for added flexibility.

The drive for sustainable and safe solutions is as crucial in the railway sector as in any other industry. This is particularly true for specialist machines used in track construction and maintenance. Today, these machines harness the power of lithium batteries to achieve the perfect blend of performance, reliable operation, and environmental responsibility.

Designing the Flash Battery 51.2 V – 460 Ah – 23.5 kWh for a rail-use platform demanded intensive mechanical customisation. The pack's compact structure was engineered to fit the machine’s exact housing dimensions. Several structural obstacles, including rail anchors, tyres, and an isolated mechanical arm—essential for safe operation on high-voltage lines—imposed design constraints. Adhering to a strict maximum height was non-negotiable.

 

By harnessing our batteries’ modular architecture and customisable form, we developed an ultra-compact square design. The model ranks among the lowest-height units in our production line. The entire pack was fitted with special IP65-sealed connectors and a built-in heating system, for operation in extreme cold or rapidly changing environmental conditions. Equalized control of the cells is handled by electronics integrated into the battery. Thanks to our Flash Balancing System, this optimises life cycles and ensures protection even during extended periods of inactivity. The hybrid railway platform rivals a traditional internal combustion model in both performance and runtime. And it delivers cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable operation.

The Flash Battery 396.8V lithium battery, delivering 166.6kWh of energy, exemplifies outstanding high-voltage electrification design for lifting applications. Engineered for a hybrid crawler crane, this tailor-made battery pack underwent extensive customisation to meet elevated power demands.

Here, the main challenge lay in accommodating such an energy-intensive system within the vehicle’s existing structural confines. We conducted an in-depth mechanical analysis and designed a high-voltage battery pack with four series-connected units, distributed across two separate compartments within the frame to optimise weight distribution and balancing, and facilitate handling.

 

Integrated insulation control and HVIL systems ensure compliance with the stringent safety standards of high voltage applications. Other distinctive features include an integrated precharging system, a 22 kW onboard battery charger, IP65 ingress protection, and an integrated heating system for cold-weather operation.  Diagnostics via CAN bus enable predictive maintenance of the battery through our proprietary remote monitoring system: Flash Data Center.
