Rai News | The automotive electric transition, the Flash Battery standpoint | Flash Battery

The electric transition in the automotive sector is imminent, set for 2035. What do companies think? Marco Righi discusses this in this interview for RaiNews.

The electric transition is no longer simply desirable, but a given. The European Parliament has shone the spotlight on this subject, having officially set 2035 as the year in which cars with endothermic petrol and diesel engines will cease to be sold. An historic decision that lays the foundations for the complete revolution and transformation of the entire European automotive segment.

But are firms ready to make this step towards electrification?

An upcoming MISE meeting on 23 June will consider questions relating to the ecological transition, in the presence of various trade associations and unions, as well as the Deputy Minister of Development, Gilberto Pichetto. It is therefore important to highlight what is a significant turning point for European mobility.

We will be discussing this on Wednesday 22 June on RaiNews during the Economia 24 segment, live at 5.30pm on digital terrestrial channel 48 and in streaming on the Economia 24 web page.

Part of the feature will be broadcast live from the Flash Battery HQ, where our CEO and founder Marco Righi will outline the effects of this sea change on mobility, providing his views as to how it will impact on the production model and on firms in different sectors as they take on complex challenges, which, if seized in time, could be transformed into development opportunities.

“The electric transition requires continual investment in R&D and a well-structured production chain development plan. Sustainability, circularity and digitalisation are the three key dimensions to developin order to make European firms competitive on the electrification front; all this, combined with the training of specialist staff who can support this technological change. In Italy, for example, we have the expertise to do well. Let’s remember that the launch of electric cars and vehicles is not only the result of regulations that enforce it, but a demand from the market itself, a real evolution, and it is an evolution that Flash Battery knows well, thanks to its ten years of activity in the field of industrial electrification. We began in 2012 by converting machinery that was already working in electric from lead to lithium, while today we work with producers across a wide variety of industrial sectors who want to make the switch from endothermic to electric, in agriculture for example, or construction, earth-moving machines, boating. The trend is picking up speed and it’s essential to focus on research and the training of specialist technical figures. Italy is the land of Motor Valley, rich in expertise, creativity and innovation. Transforming the land of engines into a successful “electric valley” is definitely possible, but it’s important that all paths are travelled, starting with investment in innovation”.
